bill conti, most notably of "rocky" fame, knocks this one out of the park. this was supposed to be the film that was to catapult the now defunct Cannon films into the upper echelons of film studios. instead it sunk it. i personally think it was an okay movie. while not entirely true to the toy and cartoon series (the whole pitched laser gun battles must have been a part of the cartoon series i must have missed) as a sci-fi/ action movie it holds it's own. however this is a review of the soundtrack. and i must say the soundtrack made the movie better then what it actually was. bombastic and in your face, a tinge of barbaric combat music when he-man is battling beastman on earth. a heroic theme for the eternians and a soft theme for julie and kevin which cleverly incorperates elements of the cosmic key's music. retrograde does a very good job on presentation here, offering us BOTH versions of the score. the sound is awesome, the packaging is awesome. artwork is incredible. for a bit of heroic escapism i highly recommend this 2 CD set, a sound-alike score that somehow seems to stand on it's own two feet.
